POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Reporting to the Chair, Clinical Sciences, the Primary Care faculty member as a member of the Clinical Medicine department will be responsible for ensuring the foundations of clinical medicine, diagnostics, clinical care and core philosophy of osteopathic principles and practices are  integrated through classroom and clinical learning environment through lab and case based collaborative content development, delivery and assessment across the continuum of The Valley College of Osteopathic Medicine curriculum.  

SPECIFIC/KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Mission Driven:

  • Provide support through integration of primary care/clinical medicine to the department including faculty, staff, and any other persons providing delivery of the clinical sciences and as appropriate, with biomedical sciences curriculum in all four years to ensure mission aligned excellence of The Valley COM.
  • Serve on committees and actively participate in service engagements as needed by The Valley COM.

Leadership and Advisory:

  • Support the Chair, Clinical Medicine in fostering a culture of academic excellence, collaboration, community and professional development.

Curriculum Development & Instruction:

  • Collaborate with faculty and staff on the design, implementation, and assessment of the primary care curriculum across a comprehensive integrated biomedical sciences and clinical curriculum, including osteopathic principles and practices, across all four years.
  • Work with the faculty and staff to drive innovative approaches in the delivery and assessment of clinical medicine.

Evaluation/Assessment:

  • Collaborate with Chair, Clinical Sciences and the Office of Academic Affairs and Assessment and the Curriculum Committee to assure effectiveness of Clinical Sciences content with the biomedical sciences and clinical sciences curriculum, including examination preparation, delivery methods, and outcomes, as well as curriculum revisions for ongoing quality improvement.

Professional Development:

  • Engage with the Faculty and Staff Professional Development team and the Chair, Clinical Sciences, providing feedback to identify appropriate training and professional development applicable to the department

Student Support Services & Mentorship:

  • Mentor and support students in their academic and professional development.
  • Support programs to enhance student learning and engagement, including advising, mentoring, and supporting student organizations including examination preparation.

Collaboration:

  • Work collaboratively within the COM and external clinical and community partners as appropriate and as supported by the Chair, Clinical Sciences.

Research & Innovation:

  • Participate in professional development opportunities to strengthen knowledge and skills regarding research and scholarly activity.
  • Engage in scholarly activities including but not limited to areas of Clinical Sciences, teaching and learning, as well as other areas of research across the clinical application driving publication and dissemination of findings to advance the field.

Accreditation, Quality and Compliance:

  • Support accreditation standards and regulatory requirements as identified by the Chair, Clinical Sciences to maintain the highest quality of education and experience.

Strategic Planning and Development:

  • Contribute to the strategic planning and vision of the COM, identifying opportunities for growth and innovation that promotes the mission of The Valley COM.

General:

  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATION(S):

  • DO degree from a COCA-accredited medical school or MD degree from an LCME or equivalent medical school.
  • Active medical license free from disciplinary action.
  • Board certification by the appropriate AOA or ABMS specialty board.
  • Demonstrated experience in education at the rank of Assistant Professor or higher
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and delivering medical skills curriculum with experience at a COM preferred.
