POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Reporting to the Chair, Biomedical Sciences, the Microbiology/Immunology faculty member, as a member of the biomedical sciences department, will be responsible for microbiology/immunology case based collaborative content development, delivery and assessment across the continuum of The Valley College of Osteopathic Medicine (The Valley COM) curriculum.  

SPECIFIC/KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Mission Driven:

  • Provide support to the department including faculty, staff, and any other persons providing delivery of the biomedical sciences curriculum in all four years to ensure mission aligned excellence of The Valley COM.
  • Serve on committees and actively participate in service engagements as needed by The Valley COM.

Leadership and Advisory:

  • Support the Chair, Biomedical Sciences in fostering a culture of academic excellence, collaboration, community and professional development.

Curriculum Development & Instruction:

  • Collaborate with faculty and staff on the design, implementation, and assessment of the innovation as an expert in clinical microbiology/immunology curriculum across a comprehensive integrated biomedical sciences curriculum across all four years, including NBOME, COMLEX-USA examination preparation.
  • Work with the faculty and staff to drive innovative approaches in the delivery and assessment of microbiology/immunology.

Evaluation/Assessment:

  • Collaborate with the Chair, Biomedical Sciences and the Office of Academic Affairs and Assessment and the Curriculum Committee to assure effectiveness of clinical microbiology/immunology content with the biomedical sciences curriculum, including NBOME, COMLEX-USA examination preparation, delivery methods, and outcomes, as well as curriculum revisions for ongoing quality improvement.

Professional Development:

  • Engage with the Faculty and Staff Professional Development team and the Chair, Biomedical Sciences, providing feedback to identify appropriate training and professional development applicable to the department

Student Support Services & Mentorship:

  • Mentor and support students in their academic and professional development.
  • Support programs to enhance student learning and engagement, including advising, mentoring, and supporting student organizations.

 Collaboration:

  • Work collaboratively within The Valley COM and externally with clinical and community partners as appropriate and as supported by the Chair, Biomedical Sciences

Research & Innovation:

  • Participate in professional development opportunities to strengthen knowledge and skills regarding research and scholarly activity.
  • Engage in scholarly activities including but not limited to areas of  microbiology/immunology, teaching and learning, as well as other areas of research across the biomedical sciences driving publication and dissemination of findings to advance the field.

Accreditation, Quality and Compliance:

  • Support accreditation standards and regulatory requirements as identified by the Chair, Biomedical Sciences to maintain the highest quality of education and experience.

Strategic Planning and Development:

  • Contribute to the strategic planning and vision of The Valley COM, identifying opportunities for growth and innovation that promotes the mission of The Valley COM.

General:

  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATION(S):

  • PhD in microbiology/immunology or other terminal degree and experience pertinent to the department
  • Demonstrated experience in education at the rank of Assistant Professor or higher
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and delivering clinical microbiology and immunology/biomedical sciences curriculum with experience at a COM preferred.
