POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Director of Student Life & Events is a mission-driven leader responsible for fostering a vibrant and supportive student experience at The Valley College of Osteopathic Medicine (The Valley COM). This role supports student leadership and organizations, compliance with student health requirements, Faculty Advising tracking of the adjudication processes, and the planning of major institutional events. The Director serves as a key connector between students and campus resources, ensuring alignment with The Valley COM’s  mission to train Osteopathic physicians with the courage to lead, the passion to serve and a devotion to learning.

 

 SPECIFIC/KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Mission Driven

  • Champion The Valley COM’s mission and vision through student-centered programming and leadership development.
  • Promote wellness, service, and leadership as core values in all student life initiatives.

Leadership and Advisory

  • Provide strategic leadership for student organizations and student government.
  • Advise student leaders and clubs on governance, budgeting, and event planning.
  • Oversee and

Curriculum Development & Instruction

  • Collaborate with faculty and staff to integrate co-curricular learning into the student experience.
  • Support longitudinal wellness initiatives in coordination with academic and clinical programming.

Evaluation/Assessment

  • Track and assess student engagement, health compliance, and adjudication outcomes.
  • Provide data-driven reports to leadership to inform strategic pivots and improvements.

 

Professional Development

  • Facilitate leadership development opportunities for students through workshops, retreats, and mentoring.
  • Support faculty and staff development related to advising and student engagement.

Student Support Services & Mentorship

  • Serve as a key liaison between students and campus resources including academic counseling, mental health services, career counseling, and library services.
  • Promote a culture of mentorship and belonging across the student body.

Collaboration

  • Coordinate with Enrollment Services, Academic Affairs, Wellness Planning, and other departments to ensure seamless student support.
  • Foster effective working relationships among faculty, staff, and students.

Research & Innovation

  • Utilize student feedback and engagement data to innovate programming and services.
  • Explore new technologies and methods to enhance student life and event experiences.

Accreditation, Quality and Compliance

  • Ensure student health, immunization, and compliance records are maintained in collaboration with Enrollment Services.
  • Oversee the student adjudication process, ensuring fairness, documentation, and compliance with institutional policies.

Strategic Planning and Development

  • Develop and implement strategic plans for student life initiatives aligned with institutional goals.
  • Lead planning for major student events including Welcome Week, Match Day, White Coat Ceremony, Commencement, and others.

Finance & Administration

  • Manage the Student Life & Events budget, including student organization funding and college-sponsored events.
  • Oversee financial records for student clubs and ensure fiscal responsibility.

General

  • Plan, implement, and evaluate student activities sponsored by The Valley COM.
  • Supervise student activities fairs and wellness events in collaboration with the wellness initiative team.
  • Create and distribute monthly calendars and newsletters to promote student engagement.
  • Coordinate with internal and external partners to support student programming and services.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree required in Higher Education, Student Affairs, Counseling, or a related field; Master’s degree or higher preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in student affairs or related roles.
  • Demonstrated experience in event planning, student leadership development, and compliance oversight.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
