POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Reporting to the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs and Assessment, the Director of Academic Technology (DAT) will be charged with collaborating with all college departments and units to help oversee and assist with the academic and educational related technology needs of the campus community. The DAT is responsible for leading the planning, development, and implementation of academic technology services to support the educational mission of the medical school. This role involves overseeing the integration of technology in teaching, learning, and research, ensuring that faculty and students have access to, training and support of the necessary  tools and resources.  The DAT will also be charged with the day to day management of the student and classroom facing information technology services, including the IT Help Desk and onsite classroom and laboratory support.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

Mission Driven:

  • Ensure that all academic technology initiatives align with the mission and strategic goals of The Valley COM.
  • Promote the use of technology to enhance the quality of education and research.
  • Serve on committees and actively participate in service engagements as needed by The Valley COM.

Leadership:

  • Provide leadership in the adoption and integration of academic technology.
  • Serve as an advisor on academic technology to the school’s leadership team and other stakeholders.
  • Complete all required evaluations of direct reports.

Curriculum Development & Instruction/Implementation:

  • Collaborate with faculty to integrate technology into curriculum development and instructional design.
  • Oversee the implementation and delivery of technology-enhanced learning environments.
  • Manage strategic vendor relationships that pertain to the college
  • Oversee the maintenance and necessary interventions for all academic technology platforms used by the college

Evaluation/Assessment:

  • Collaborate with the Office of Academic Affairs and Assessment and the Curriculum Committee to assure effectiveness of the curriculum, delivery methods, and outcomes, as well as the application of curriculum revisions for ongoing quality improvement.

Professional Development:

  • Provide appropriate training and professional development applicable to the department either directly or in collaboration with the Faculty and Staff Professional Development team.
  • Design and deliver professional development programs to enhance faculty and staff competencies in using academic technology.
  • Support faculty and staff in the adoption of new technologies and innovative teaching practices.

Student Support Services & Mentorship:

  • Support programs to enhance student learning and engagement, including advising, mentoring, and supporting student organizations.

Collaboration:

  • Foster collaboration within the COM and extending to our clinical and community partners.

Research & Innovation:

  • Encourage and support research in the field of academic technology and support innovative projects to explore new technologies and their applications in education.

Accreditation, Quality and Compliance:

  • Ensure program(s) meet all accreditation standards and regulatory requirements, maintaining the highest quality of education and experience.

Strategic Planning and Development:

  • In cooperation with key leaders, develop the strategic plan for academic technology.
  • Identify and pursue opportunities for growth and development in technology services.
  • Contribute to the strategic planning and vision of the COM, identifying opportunities for growth and innovation that promotes the mission of The Valley COM.

Finance & Administration:

  • Manage the budget for academic technology, ensuring cost-effective use of resources.
  • Oversee the procurement and maintenance of technology infrastructure and services.

General:

  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATION(S):

  • Undergraduate degree or higher in a relevant field (e.g., Education, Information Technology, or a related discipline)
  • Strong knowledge and command of educational technology
  • Proven experience of working with technology in an educational environment, with 3-5 years in higher educational environments and preferred
  • Outstanding leadership, communication, multidisciplinary, collaborative teaming, and organizational skills
