POSITION DESCRIPTION

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Communication and Media Coordinator will manage and enhance our organization’s external communication and digital presence. This role is responsible for executing effective communication strategies, managing social media accounts, creating engaging content, promoting student activities and events, and fostering community engagement across platforms.

 

SPECIFIC/KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Mission Driven

  • Promote The Valley COM’s mission to train osteopathic physicians with the courage to lead, the passion to serve, and a devotion to learning.
  • Maintain brand voice and messaging to be consistent with the mission.

Leadership and Advisory

  • Provide support for internal communications and assist the Office of Student Services in organizing events and promotional activities.
  • Work with faculty to ensure all external content aligns with branding and marketing standards.

Curriculum Development & Instruction

  • Support the creation of materials and resources that are consistent with our marketing strategy and messaging.

Evaluation/Assessment

  • Analyze campaign performance and social media metrics.
  • Track follower growth and audience demographics across platforms
  • Monitor social media channels for trends, engagement, and feedback.
  • Provide regular reports with insights and recommendations for improvement.

Professional Development

  • Improve storytelling and brand voice consistency.
  • Draft and distribute press releases, newsletters, and email campaigns.
  • Enhance internal communication strategies.
  • Assist in the design and dissemination of educational material consistent with the brand.
  • Share the calendar of professional development events.
  • Support faculty and staff in sharing their work and accomplishments through appropriate channels.

Collaboration

  • Collaborate with The Valley COM and external teams to promote learning opportunities and share outcomes.
  • Partner with IT, design, and web teams to ensure smooth implementation of digital communications.
  • Work with faculty, staff, and leadership to gather content and align messaging with institutional goals.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts to develop accurate and engaging content for social media and internal platforms.

Research & Innovation

  • Pilot innovative campaigns that highlight institutional research, education, and community impact.
  • Engage with new formats like reels, and interactive graphics to enhance storytelling and outreach.
  • Benchmark against peer institutions and industry leaders to identify opportunities for growth.

 

Accreditation, Quality and Compliance

  • Support internal campaigns to raise awareness of compliance regulations.
  • Develop and disseminate clear, accurate messaging related to quality improvement initiatives, standards, and outcomes.

Strategic Planning and Development

  • Contribute to the execution of long-term communication strategies aligned with institutional goals
  • Assist in identifying key messaging priorities and target audiences for strategic initiatives
  • Support the creation of annual communication plans, editorial calendars, and campaign roadmaps.

General

  • Create visual content such as graphics, infographics, and videos to support communication goals.
  • Schedule and monitor posts and respond to comments.
  • Develop, write and edit content for digital and print platforms including websites, newsletters, social media, and promotional materials.
  • Manage and grow The Valley COM’s presence on social media platforms.
  • Respond to comments, messages, and inquiries in a timely and professional manner.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communication, Marketing, Public Relations, or related field.
  • 1–2 years of experience in social media management or communications.
  • Proficiency in social media management platforms and content creation tools (e.g., Canva, Buffer, Hootsuite).
  • Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills.
  • Basic graphic design and video editing skills.
  • Knowledge of SEO and digital marketing principles.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
